The Assisted Feeding Calculator is an educational planning and monitoring tool. It helps you organise food-intake information and perform feeding calculations.

It does not diagnose illness, determine whether assisted feeding is appropriate for your individual cat or replace veterinary or veterinary-nutrition advice.

The calculator helps you with the numbers when assisted feeding is appropriate for your individual cat. 

It does not diagnose illness or determine whether oral assisted feeding is appropriate or safe for a particular cat.

If your cat has stopped eating, is unwell, is vomiting, is having difficulty swallowing and your veterinary team confirms that assisted feeding is an option, you can use the calculator to get it done.

You can also use the calculator to know how much food is needed even when you simply want to keep on top of your cat's independent food intake.

That's exactly why I created this.

Cats with poor appetites rarely make life easy by eating one measured portion of one food.

You can record what your cat has eaten and use the calorie information for those foods to build a much clearer picture of their overall intake.

You'll need some basic information about your cat, their food intake and the calorie density of the foods you're recording (you can usually find this information on the food packaging).

For your assisted-feeding blend, you'll enter the information the calculator needs to determine how many calories are contained in the prepared volume (usually also found on the food packaging).

The calculator uses three days of food intake to help create a more useful picture than relying on one unusually good or bad day.

Come back and recalculate whenever your cat's appetite, food, weight or feeding blend changes.

You can still use the AFC to organise and calculate food-intake information, but some cats need individual calorie or nutrition targets because of their age, condition, weight goals or treatment plan.

Where your veterinary team has given you a specific target, that guidance takes priority over a general estimated target.
